Criteria for maintenance and damage assessment of imported bearings

After the installation of the bearing is completed, in order to check whether the installation is correct, a running inspection should be carried out. Small machinery can be rotated by hand to confirm smooth rotation. The inspection items include poor operation caused by foreign objects, scratches, and indentations, unstable torque caused by poor installation and machining of the installation seat, and excessive torque caused by small clearance, installation errors, and sealing friction. If there are no abnormalities, power operation can begin.

When dismantling imported bearings for maintenance, first record the appearance of the bearings, confirm the residual amount of lubricant, take samples to inspect the lubricant used, and then wash the bearings. As a cleaning agent, gasoline and kerosene are commonly used.

The cleaning of dismantled imported bearings can be divided into coarse cleaning and fine cleaning. They are placed in containers respectively, with metal mesh pads placed at the bottom to prevent the bearings from directly contacting the dirt in the container. During rough cleaning, if the bearing is rotated with dirt, it will damage the rolling surface of the bearing, and attention should be paid. In rough cleaning oil, use a brush to remove lubricating grease and adhesive substances. After roughly cleaning, proceed to fine cleaning.

Fine cleaning refers to carefully cleaning the bearings while rotating them in cleaning oil. In addition, cleaning oil should also be kept clean regularly.

In order to determine whether the disassembled imported bearings can be reused, it is necessary to inspect the condition of the raceway surface, rolling surface, mating surface, wear of the retainer, increase in bearing clearance, and whether there is any damage or abnormality related to the decrease in dimensional accuracy after washing the bearings. For non separable ball bearings, use one hand to support the inner ring horizontally and rotate the outer ring to confirm smoothness.

Bearings can be divided into separate bearings, and the raceway surfaces of the rolling element and outer ring can be inspected separately. For large bearings, as they cannot be rotated by hand, attention should be paid to inspecting the appearance of the rolling element, raceway, retainer, and retaining surface. The higher the importance of the bearing, the more careful the inspection is.

Large machinery cannot be manually rotated, so immediately cut off power after starting with no load, let the machinery idle, check for any vibration, noise, contact with rotating parts, etc. After confirming that there are no abnormalities, enter power operation.

Power operation starts at low speed without load and gradually increases to the rated operation under the specified conditions. The inspection items during the trial operation include whether there is any abnormal sound, changes in the temperature of the imported bearings, leakage or discoloration of lubricants, etc. If any abnormalities are found, the operation should be immediately stopped, the machinery should be inspected, and if necessary, the bearings should be removed for inspection.
